The short version
Anything you type into the write-it-out feature stays on your device. Paper, Bubble Wrap, and Water can be played without an account. Other stations use optional sign-in for Premium access. We also send anonymous usage counts (which stations you played and how long you spent) to our own server so we know what's working. Paid membership checkout is handled by Stripe; we do not receive your full card details.
What stays on your device
Everything that matters to you:
- Your vent text — the "write it out" feature never sends your words anywhere. They're destroyed on-screen and gone forever.
- Some preferences — theme (dark/light), sound settings, haptic level, and your daily surface streak are stored locally in your browser. When you are signed in, selected settings and favorites can also sync to your account.
- Which surface you're on — the app remembers where you left off, but only in your browser. Close the tab, it's gone.
What we collect
We send anonymous analytics events to ventyourfeelings.com so we can count how many people are using the site and which surfaces resonate.
Usage events
When you interact with the site, we log:
- Station plays — which surface you started destroying (e.g., "paper", "glass")
- Dwell time — how many seconds you spent on a surface (only while the tab is visible)
- Tool size — whether you switched to S, M, or L
- Completions — when you fully destroyed a surface
- Mood check-ins — if you answer "How are you feeling?" (welcome screen) or "Feel a little better?" (post-destruction), we log your pick (e.g., "angry", "much_better"). These events use the anonymous session identifier, not your account profile.
Signed-in usage
For signed-in accounts, actual station plays and completions are attributed to the authenticated account on our server. Visible dwell time is recorded only after an authenticated play in that session. Page loads, station displays, mood answers, and anonymous events are not converted into account activity. We use this data for rolling active-player and station usage reports; it is kept separate from the anonymous session reports.
All events are batched and sent in the background. If the send fails (network down, etc.), the app keeps working — analytics never block anything.
What we don't collect
- Your account credentials, email address, or profile details in usage events (authentication and profile details are handled by the sign-in service instead)
- Your IP address or precise location
- Device identifiers (IDFA, Android ID, etc.)
- Anything you type in the "write it out" feature
- Cross-site tracking (we don't follow you around the web)
Why we collect it
We want to know if people are finding relief, which surfaces help most, and where the experience falls flat. Anonymous counts let us prioritize fixes and new features; signed-in usage helps us understand authenticated play and subscription access without collecting account profile details.
Data retention
Anonymous analytics events and server-attributed signed-in usage are stored in a PostgreSQL database on our server for aggregate reporting (trends over time, most-played surfaces, authenticated usage, and subscription reporting). Signed-in usage is linked to the authenticated account identifier supplied by Clerk; contact us if you have a privacy question or request about that record.
Third parties
The sign-in service processes account authentication and profile details. Stripe processes paid membership checkout and card details on its hosted payment pages; we do not receive full card numbers. The analytics go straight to our own server. We do not use advertising trackers or sell your data.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and note the new date at the top. For big changes (new trackers, data sharing), we'll add a notice to the site so you know before it takes effect.
